Resist or rebel?

Resist or rebel?

At this point in history, does art activism need to be less about resistance and more about rebellion?

We stand in America, watching puerile and pernicious toadies eviscerate democracy, social justice and humanity.

Under the façade of streamlining government, we are witness to U.S. President-sanctioned revenge unleashed on people based on their adherence and enforcement of Constitutional and Federal laws.

Americans are also eyewitnesses to systematic hostilities toward groups of people based on their race, skin color, national origin, religion, disability, veteran, sex and citizenship status.

And what will the entitled Tech Reich do with our social security and genetic information?

Since surfacing in January, Abbetuck has focused on the power of the arts to connect with people’s hearts and minds to combat injustice and inequities.

I call this arts activism.

Resistance has been at the heart of the arts since ancient cave paintings, drumming, dance and storytelling.

However, given the speed of this coup, activism and resistance now feel inadequate.

It is time to rebel.

  • Do you agree?
  • And, if so, how do artists of all disciplines rebel against this attack?
