Bury democracy on April 19

We invite individual visual and performing artists, writers, bookstores, book clubs, brave non-profit or government organizations and other individuals or groups across the USA to independently “flood the zone” with creativity, for Create to Liberate, Saturday, April 19, 2025.

Think of the following idea as a pilot light for the creative fire within you (if yours needs to be lit.)

Here is a grave act of art resistance that will be perfect for crafters.

  1. Find or build a small box that you can (a) use as a “coffin” but (b) could bury quickly with a few digs of a hand spade.
  2. Print out a copy of the U.S. Constitution from The National Constitution Center (Quickl! Before this administration shuts it down, too!) Print all nineteen pages or just your favorite Amendment … you know, like the First one.
  3. Roll, fold or shred the Constitution and place it in the “coffin.”
  4. Craft an appropriately sized grave marker. Inscribe it as you wish. We suggest “RIP American Democracy b: July 4, 1776, d: Nov. 5, 2024.” Be sure to create a base for the gravestone that can easily be secured in soil. (Here’s a one-minute “how to” YouTube short for crafters.)
  5. On April 19, 2025, use a hand spade to quickly place the headstone and bury the coffin and in a non-playable but visible location at your municipal golf course.

Or a Trump-owned golf course (avoid Ivana).

Or a course that hosts LIV Golf play.

Sweet

Make sure to leave a mound of fresh dirt so people will notice.

Perhaps lay a few, tiny flowers or place a pebble on the marker. You can enhance the DEI of this act by adding a descanso or ofrenda. You may also consider an Indigenous tree or sky burial practice.

And there is always cremation. Scatter the ashes of the US constitution at an Amazon warehouse, Apple store, Walmart, Target or Home Depot.

Very touching

We would not, however, recommend an open-air pyre. Not in fire season and not with DOGE cuts to the U.S. Forest Service.

Wave at the security cameras, if any, and then get the hell out of there.

This is wicked art activism!
