You can be an art activist by buying a book on April 19

Someone else’s words and someone else’s bookstore may be all the incentive you need to participate in Create to Liberate.

Elevating independent bookstores and self-published authors aligns beautifully with art activism.

  • Independent bookstores are the heartbeats of their communities.

Independent bookstores provide culture and community, generate local jobs and sales tax revenue, promote literacy and education.

They also champion and center diverse and new authors, connect readers to books in a personal and authentic way and actively support the right to read and access books in their communities.

  • Self-published authors are remarkable for their resilience and creative independence.

Self-published authors take bold steps to share their stories and ideas with the world, bypassing traditional gatekeepers in the publishing industry.

This independence allows them to explore unique, niche, and often underrepresented topics, amplifying voices that might otherwise be unheard.

Book ’em, Danno

Supporting independent bookstores and self-published authors isn’t about saving a business or patronizing an emerging writer, it’s about protecting the freedom to think, question and grow.

It’s about ensuring that convenience and profit do not silence creative voices.

Every purchase is an act of defiance against intellectual conformity — a declaration that the freedom to read and imagine is worth fighting for.

Resist. Read. Repeat.

This is beautiful art activism.

We invite individual visual and performing artists, writers, bookstores, book clubs, brave non-profit or government organizations and other individuals or groups across the USA to independently “flood the zone” with creativity, for Create to Liberate, Saturday, April 19, 2025.

Think of the idea above as a pilot light for the creative fire within you (if yours needs to be lit.)
